Detailed Description

The SC115 consists of electronics protected in a custom molded package. It has a USB 2.0 compatible connector for attaching it to the PC's USB port, and a CS I/O 9-pin connector for attaching it to a data logger's CS I/O port. The SC115 may be connected directly to a PC or data logger, or connected through the supplied extension cables.

The SC115 is typically used as an external data storage device, but may also be used as a USB-to-CS I/O synchronous device communications (SDC) adapter. As a USB-to-CS I/O adapter, the SC115 supports direct communication between a Campbell Scientific data logger and a PC equipped with a USB port. However, the SC115 is not electronically isolated, and therefore is better for temporary communications with a battery-powered PC. Another device, the SC-USB, also supports direct communications with a PC's USB port, but is optically isolated.

USB drivers for the SC115 must be installed before connecting the SC115 to a PC for configuration or as a USB-to-CS I/O adapter. The driver can be installed from the Device Configuration Utility device page by clicking the "Install the Device Driver" link.

Data Logger Considerations

Connections

The SC115 has a CS I/O port for attachment to the data logger and a USB port for attachment to a PC. You can connect the SC115 to the PC or data logger either directly or via the supplied cables. (Only one SC115 can be connected to a data logger at a time.) An SC12 CS I/O cable and a USB cable are shipped with the SC115.

Programming

CRBasic TableFile instruction is used to store data to the drive. Our Device Configuration (DevConfig) utility can be used for field configuration, OS download, and setting the SDC address. CRBasic and DevConfig are included in LoggerNet and PC400 Datalogger Support Software.

Frequently Asked Questions

Number of FAQs related to SC115: 8

Expand AllCollapse All

  1. Yes, but the data storage must be managed by the program.

  2. The SC115 works with any Campbell Scientific data logger that has a CS I/O terminal.

  3. On the Outputs page of the Short Cut program generator, each table has an option to send the data to an SC115.

  4. The available storage can be augmented by adding an NL115 or a CFM100 with an industrial-grade CompactFlash memory card. An SC115 CS I/O-to-USB Flash Memory Drive can also be used.

  5. The SC115 (2 GB) is the only device capable of extending the memory of the CR800 or CR850.
  6. The SC115 can be used in three ways:

    1. It can be used as a portable CompactFlash drive to transport data between locations.
    2. It can remain connected to the data logger as a 2G memory expansion.
    3. It can be used as a USB-to-CS I/O adapter for general communication with a data logger’s CS I/O port.

When used as a memory device, the TableFile() instruction must be included in the program. The SC115 cannot be used as a USB-to-CS I/O adapter and as a memory storage device at the same time.

  7. As long as the program running in the data logger has the TableFile() instruction in at least one data table, the data logger will automatically download the appropriate data to the SC115.
