We have just bought a Cr1000 datalogger for our weather station
Is it possible (safe) to connect a 50 A shunt resistor for current measurement with my Datalogger CR1000, (diff configuration H, L, G),
In that case where to put the ground (G), is it connected directly to the low voltage (L).
The voltage difference (between H and V) does not exceed 10mV but the voltage of the wire (both H and V) is about 16V. Is it safe for my Datalogger?

Both the high and low voltage must be within +/-5 V of the datalogger ground, so having both at 16V will not work. Are you able to put the shunt resistor in the ground cable of the device you are trying to monitor?
If you can't put the shunt in the ground side, another option is an isolation amp. We use them all the time in our labs on 12 volt vehicle systems. The isolation amp is also used to boost the mv signal to something like 5 volts full scale to improve the S/N ratio.
